February 23 According to BBC reports, the legendary British football commentator John Motson (John Motson) passed away today
, at the age of 77.
“It is with great sadness that we announce that John Mawson, OBE, passed away peacefully in his sleep today (Thursday),” the Mawson family said in a statement.
John Mortensen, better known as “Motty,” has covered nearly 2,500 games.
He participated in the commentary of 10 World Cups, 10 European Cups and 29 FA Cup finals before retiring from the BBC in 2018.
Mortensen was awarded an OBE for his services to sports broadcasting in 2001 and won a BAFTA in 2018.
The last game of his commentary career was Crystal Palace’s home game against West Bromwich Albion in 2018.
After the game, he was invited to play and received applause from the fans and a souvenir from Crystal Palace officials.
