The 2022 Football Black List, which is dedicated to honoring the most influential black players in British football, as well as positive role models in the game.
The football “black” list was founded by journalists Leon Mann and Rodney Hinds. Since 2008, this list has been released once a year to recognize outstanding figures in various fields about football. It has a total of 8 categories.
Sterling is one of five players on the updated list for 2022, the others being Marcus Rashford and Bukayo-Saka, Jamaican striker Andre Gray and Leyton Orient Women’s FC.

Individual players are nominated by the public for football’s ‘black’ list, and a panel of experts comprising representatives of the Premier League, Football League, Football Association, League Managers’ Association and ‘Kick It Out’ narrows down the shortlist until a final selection is made.
Sterling’s selection is a recognition of the work he has done on and off the pitch.
He was awarded an MBE (Member of the Order of the British Empire) in the Queen’s 2021 Birthday Honors list for his contribution to racial equality in sport, and has been in the most influential UK for the past 2 years
