January 6th, according to a report from "Corriere dello Sport", because Lazio fans racially discriminated against Umtiti
Titus, Lazio was fined to close the North Stand at home for one game.
In this week’s Serie A, Lazio lost 1-2 away to Lecce.
During the game, Lazio fans continued to racially discriminate against Lecce’s black player Umtiti. Umtiti cried for a while, and the referee also stopped the game for 2 minutes to deal with the matter.
After the game, many football figures, including FIFA President Infantino, criticized the behavior of Lazio fans.
This Thursday, the Italian Court of Sport sanctioned the incident. Lazio’s next home game will see the North Stand of the Stadio Olimpico closed for one game. The North Stand is a traditional gathering place for Lazio’s extreme fans.
The sports judge said in the penalty statement that after reading the referee’s report and the prosecutor’s investigation report, he learned that during the entire game, about 1,000 of the 1,072 visiting team fans in the away team’s stand where the Lazio fans were located were against Umti.
He was responsible for the racial discrimination of Lazio, so he made the penalty decision to close the North Stand of Lazio’s home court.
In addition, in another match of this round of Serie A, Inter Milan defeated the leader Naples 1-0 at home. Some Naples fans also shouted racial discrimination slogans at the black player Kukaku during the game.
The sports judge has asked prosecutors to investigate the matter further.
