December 08-The Athletic UK learned from several sources that a Filipino man expected to be in his early 40s died in the venue during the World Cup. In order to protect their work and safety, these sources cannot be identified. The man who works on the website says his name is Alex.
Alex was involved in a forklift accident when he slid down the ramp while walking beside him and hit his head against the concrete. A medical helicopter flew to the scene of the accident, but the worker could not be rescued.
According to the staff at the scene (speaking on condition of anonymity to protect his job), he came to the resort as Qatar Sallam Oil Company (Salam Petroleum), and his task was to repair the lights in the parking lot.
Several sources at the scene said the worker was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident. In order to protect their work, their identities cannot be disclosed. It is not clear whether the companies concerned have provided seat belts.
Nasser al-Carter, chief executive of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, told reporters in response to a question from BBC about the recent casualties of migrant workers: “We are hosting the World Cup, we are hosting a successful World Cup, so is it something you want to talk about now that a migrant worker died?
Death is a natural part of life, both at work and in sleep. We mourn the death of a worker to his family, but oddly enough, you want to make this your first question. ”
