January 14 News Naples home 5-1 Juventus, Juventus coach Allegri after the game
Interviewed:
“First of all, we have to congratulate Napoli for their performance. We were a little low in energy dealing with all the goals, too deep in the opening 20 minutes and then just as we went forward,” Allegri told DAZN.
Lost the second ball.
Allegri told DAZN: “We had chances, it felt like we could score, but that’s football, every time Napoli has a shot, it could be a goal. You just have to look at the third goal, that’s the goal.
A corner that wasn’t cut.
“There’s still a long way to go and a lot of points to fight for, so we have to get to work and look forward.”
Allegri was asked if it was the most painful loss of his Juventus career.
“It was a deserved defeat because we went into the game with less energy. The situations we dropped were also fairly easy to read and predict, but sometimes luck is on your side and sometimes it’s not. We tried to get the game right before half-time.
A turnaround, but Napoli fully deserved it.
“It doesn’t mean we should put our heads down because we can be proud of our eighth win in a row and we need to get back on track in Serie A and the Coppa Italia.”
In recent matches, Juventus have tended to grab late winners, so there was no sign of this apparent physical breakdown.
“When you make mistakes like this against an opponent like Napoli, you get punished. They are leaders and deserve where they are.
“We have to keep working hard, keep improving and try to get injured players back. There is a positive in all the negatives because we reacted well in the first half, even though the ball wasn’t kind to us tonight.
“There’s no need to be down, just like after eight straight wins, we didn’t get carried away. It was a loss and we moved on.”
The result puts Juventus within 10 points of leaders Napoli and could be left behind by Milan for tomorrow’s visit to Lecce.
It was Chiesa’s first start since tearing his anterior cruciate ligament more than a year ago, but he operated almost as a defender in the first half.
“We went too deep with Chiesa and Krstic and after a few minutes I realized we had to switch McKennie and Chiesa and push him up front. When things go wrong, it’s like they
The ball didn’t land very well, and that’s our fault, too, because we didn’t have the energy that Napoli had.”
